Walton Lofts, acoustics completed by JCK Acoustics

Walton Lofts is a 12-story, loft-style residential tower located in downtown Seattle. This eco-friendly building is Green Globe certified and boasts 136 apartment units that seamlessly blend into a vibrant and green neighborhood. The area is home to green streets, an urban watershed, and a city park dedicated to community gardening, making it the perfect place for nature lovers. The project's resident amenities include an expansive roof deck and a library-themed common area that provides stunning views of the park and Elliott Bay beyond. The building's design is responsive to its environment, with all roof water runoff directed through open runnels to a system of exposed weirs in the lushly planted edge of Vine Street, forming a vital connection in the neighborhood fabric. Additionally, the building features artist-made components combined with creative detailing of standard building parts, contributing to the unique and inspiring sense of place.

At JCK Acoustics, our team provided comprehensive services to support the development of the project from the early schematic design stages through to construction administration. We were tasked with conducting an environmental noise analysis for the site in order to assess the potential impact of traffic noise on the residential spaces. As per Seattle Municipal Code, all mechanical equipment  was evaluated to ensure that noise levels were within the established limits.

To achieve adequate sound isolation between unit separating walls and floors, acoustic design solutions were provided. This entailed evaluating various assembly construction types in order to save space while maximizing sound isolation performance. To best minimize footfall noise, flooring underlayments were field tested, evaluated, and ultimately recommended. Other assemblies reviewed included corridor walls and shaft walls. Construction walkthroughs were also performed to inspect the installation of electrical boxes, plumbing isolation, and joint caulking. Our efforts were aimed at ensuring that our recommendations were implemented effectively.
